Ending Explained: A Serbian Film
The Snuff That Thought It Was Art (and Ended Up a High-School Nightmare)
💡 What does the ending really mean?
In the climax of A Serbian Film, the drugged and amnesiac Milos is manipulated into raping and decapitating his own young son while the boy is forced to have sex with his mother. Upon regaining his memory and witnessing the full atrocity, Milos shoots himself in the head. Symbolically, the ending is a savage, nihilistic allegory of post-Milošević Serbia: a broken nation that literally devours its own children. Incest, infanticide and extreme snuff become the ultimate image of a country gutted by war, corruption and moral collapse, committing national suicide with no redemption or catharsis, only absolute void. The film does not critique trauma; it becomes it.
