💡 What does the ending really mean?

The critic, a bloated and bitter cinephile, finally realizes the all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet is a human slaughterhouse where undocumented immigrants are butchered, cooked, and served to Spanish patrons. In a frenzy of hunger and guilt, he chokes on a plate of special fried rice containing the remains of his own missing daughter, then literally explodes—vomiting and shitting himself to death in front of indifferent diners. Symbolically, the ending is merciless: Spanish society cannibalizes its marginalized victims without remorse, while the supposedly enlightened intellectual is revealed as an active, ravenous participant in the very horror he once denounced. There is no catharsis or redemption, only consumption and rot; the film itself decays along with the viewer’s conscience.
