💡 What does the ending really mean?

The climax of Lenore: The Rot of Existence reveals that Lenore was never a separate being but the final functioning personality the protagonist—an institutionalized ex-horror writer—fabricated to wall off his guilt for murdering his wife and daughter. In the final minutes every layer of reality peels away like rotting flesh: the asylum dissolves back into the original crime house, and the man literally devours himself in front of a mirror while the camera spins in a single unbroken 360-degree whirl. Symbolically the ending is the total triumph of Lovecraftian entropy over identity. Sanity does not shatter; it decomposes like organic matter. There is no external monster—the universe itself is the digestive organism that consumes consciousness. The final mirror reflects nothing because no subject remains to be reflected. Absolute annihilation of the self.
