Ending Explained: Project Wolf Hunting
The Ship of Wolves Who Can’t Swim (and the Sinking of Korean Cinema in Its Own Bile)
💡 What does the ending really mean?
In the climax, the secret genetic experiment known as Wolf breaks free during the escalating prison riot and unleashes indiscriminate slaughter on inmates and cops alike. Detective Park Jong-du engages the supersoldier in a brutal, pointless brawl as the ship, riddled with damage, literally sinks into the sea, turning the vessel into a floating abattoir with no survivors or redemption. Symbolically, the ending is a blunt, self-owning metaphor: the doomed ship is contemporary Korean genre cinema, overloaded with clichés, unchecked ambition, and ugly CGI, drowning in its own bile and gratuitous violence. Neither the wolf nor the industry can swim.
