Ending Explained: The Idol
A Parade of Scandal and Excess
💡 What does the ending really mean?
In the climax, the pop star Jocelyn, having fully internalized the industry's predatory machinery, rejects her handler's final manipulations during a chaotic live performance and deliberately torches her own career in a blaze of self-sabotage, choosing total annihilation over continued exploitation. The ending shows her walking away from the wreckage, alone and stripped of fame, as the camera lingers on the empty stage. Symbolically it means the only authentic escape from a system that commodifies trauma and sexuality is self-immolation: fame's ultimate product is the star's willing destruction, revealing that 'artistic freedom' was always just another illusion sold by the same machine.
