Ending Explained: Adolescence, Sex, and Death at Camp Miasma
The Slasher That Reeks of Teen Sweat and a Recycled Script
💡 What does the ending really mean?
In the climax, Camp Miasma is exposed as a self-consuming media loop: the masked killer is the camera itself, devouring the teens as they livestream their own deaths to an abandoned internet channel. The final survivor, deep in gender dysphoria, films themself slicing their chest with a rusted knife, uploads the footage, and literally dissolves into pixels. Symbolically, the ending declares the slasher genre and analog cinema both dead. Adolescent flesh no longer bleeds—it only produces content. The true horror is not death but the inability to stop recording while you vanish. Schoenbrun doesn’t end the film; she unplugs it.
