Ending Explained: Cube
The Claustrophobic Miracle That Proved Hell Fits in 13x13 Feet (and a $365K Budget)
💡 What does the ending really mean?
In the climax, Kazan, the only survivor, crawls out of the final room into blinding white light after the others are killed by traps or each other. The supposed exit is just another layer of the endless cube grid, revealing their escape was illusory; the structure is a self-contained purgatory floating in an unknown void. Symbolically, the ending means humanity is trapped in an arbitrary, bureaucratic hell of its own design. No redemption, no escape, only the random cruelty of mathematics and indifference. The autistic savant Kazan simply keeps moving forward because he has nowhere else to go, embodying the film's nihilistic shrug at existence.
