💡 What does the ending really mean?

Steven shoots his son Bob in the head in front of his wife and daughter, fulfilling Martin's curse. The family, now cleansed by the sacrifice, resumes their sterile domestic routine at breakfast while Martin watches contentedly from afar; the curse ends. Symbolically the ending is a brutal, arbitrary restoration of cosmic order through ritual filicide, echoing Greek tragedy: Steven's earlier hubris demanded blood atonement. The nuclear family is exposed as a fragile, hollow construct that survives only by irrational acceptance of selective violence. The sacred deer was never the animal; it was them all along.
