Ending Explained: Frontière(s)
The New French Extremism Goes on a Picnic to the Slaughterhouse
💡 What does the ending really mean?
In the climax, a pregnant survivor and her unborn child become the last hope as the inbred, neo-Nazi family of cannibalistic French nationalists is massacred in their remote slaughterhouse by rival skinheads and police fire. She escapes into the night, only to be recaptured and strapped to a birthing table while the surviving fascist patriarch prepares to claim her baby as the pure heir to his deranged vision of a new France. The ending is a brutal, ironic gut-punch: the cycle of xenophobic violence and ideological infection is reborn rather than destroyed. The final shot of the screaming newborn, delivered into the hands of the surviving monster, symbolizes how extremism is not killed at the border but perpetuated through bloodlines, trauma, and the womb itself. France’s nightmare has only just begun.
