Ending Explained: Midsommar

💡 What does the ending really mean?

Dani, drugged and broken, chooses to sacrifice Christian by having him burned alive inside a bear carcass during the climactic ritual, then smiles serenely as the commune cheers and the temple erupts in flames. The ending symbolically means the total annihilation of her previous life and toxic relationship; she achieves cathartic liberation through cultic belonging, trading personal trauma for communal ecstasy under the midnight sun. Midsommar is Swedish couples therapy taken to its most deranged, daylight-drenched extreme.
