Ending Explained: Million Dollar Baby

💡 What does the ending really mean?

Maggie, quadriplegic after a cheap shot severs her spine, begs Frankie to end her life. Tormented by faith and guilt, he refuses for weeks until, in her hospital room, he injects adrenaline and removes her ventilator. She dies peacefully; he vanishes forever. The ending brutally inverts the sports fairy tale: the ultimate victory is not the championship belt but the dignified choice of death over a degraded existence. The ring was mere prelude; life itself delivers the real knockout. Redemption arrives through the most radical act of love—euthanizing the person you cherish to spare her eternal humiliation.
