💡 What does the ending really mean?

In the climax, Nancy lures the newly corporeal Freddy into the waking world, burns him, stabs him, and seemingly defeats him with his own power. Yet the iconic ending reveals the trap: her mother is violently yanked through the bedroom window by his bladed glove while Freddy’s laughter echoes from the mirror, and the parents’ car drives off with the children reduced to tiny, toy-like silhouettes trapped inside. Craven’s ending is a savage circular snare. The monster cannot be killed because he is the repressed suburban unconscious the adults manufactured; victory is an illusion sold by the same domestic facade that birthed him. The dream always reclaims its prey, and bourgeois America merely repackages its sins for the next generation.
