💡 What does the ending really mean?

A mother and daughter, fleeing their own fractured relationship, are hunted in the woods by a vicious monster that only emerges at night. In the climax, the mother finally confronts the creature head-on, sacrificing herself by drawing it away so her daughter can escape to the road. As she lies dying, the monster looms over her, but she stares it down without fear, realizing it was never the true threat. The beast is then struck and killed by a passing truck. The ending reveals the monster as a blunt symbol of the mother's own monstrous failings, rage, and self-loathing. By facing it, she achieves a raw, painful redemption, ensuring her daughter survives both the literal beast and the inherited emotional darkness. Motherhood itself was always the scarier monster.
