💡 What does the ending really mean?

In the last course of *The Menu*, Slowik reveals that no one will leave Hawthorn alive: diners and staff will die together as the final dessert, a giant flaming s’more. Margot, who has learned that Tyler knew from the start that they were going to die and brought her anyway, saves herself with the one move the chef didn’t expect: she tells him she’s still hungry and orders a cheeseburger. Slowik, moved as he remembers why he started cooking, makes it for her; she tastes it, asks for it to go and leaves the island by boat while the restaurant burns. Symbolically, the cheeseburger is the opposite of the tasting menu: food made to satisfy, not to be admired. Margot is the only one who treats Slowik as a cook rather than a priest, which is why she is the only one he lets go. The rest, who paid to feel special, end up as the house’s final dish.
