Acid in the Veins — Fede Álvarez Revives the Tactile Panic of Alien
Industrial claustrophobia and pure physical terror. A merciless critique of Ian Holm's CGI and the cheap nostalgia that stains the franchise's return.
Acid in the Veins: full review
Taking over from Ridley Scott and James Cameron is like spitting in God's face while drowning in acid. Fede Álvarez didn't come to ask permission; he came to bleed. On the Jackson's Star, an orbital tomb where oxygen is paid for in drops, the promise is clear: return to tactile horror, where fear isn't seen, it smells of stale sweat and rusted metal. It's a return to visceral roots, moving away from the cosmic pomposity of Prometheus to dive into the organic grime that made the franchise great.
The Camera as Predator
Álvarez directs with the precision of a surgeon who knows where to cut to make it hurt more. Galo Olivares' cinematography doesn't illuminate; it drowns. The station's corridors are mazes of shadows where light is a scarce resource and silence is a weapon. There is no room for breath, only for panic. Every frame is designed to make the audience feel the atmospheric pressure falling on their lungs, an industrial oppression that recalls the best moments of Alien (1979), where production design was the true villain.Flesh Against Code
Cailee Spaeny embodies Rain with a vulnerability that doesn't fall into the invincible heroine cliché; she is soft flesh in a steel world. But the real punch is David Jonsson as Andy. His android isn't a toy robot; it's a machine with a broken soul, a brilliant android complexity that steals the movie with every calculated micro-expression. Jonsson turns Andy into the latent heart of the ship, a disturbing contrast with the environment's coldness. Meanwhile, the rest of the cast survives, but it's Jonsson's shadows that project the real terror. The Digital Aberration
This is where the movie bleeds out. The use of animatronics and physical models for the Xenomorphs is a craftsman's triumph, returning texture and weight to the creature. However, Ian Holm's resurrection as Rook is an unforgivable digital aberration. The CGI of the original synth is a stain on the retina, cheap nostalgia that breaks immersion and reminds the audience they are watching a corporate product, not a work of art. The climax with the Offspring recovers the pulse, but the metallic aftertaste leaves a bitter taste of missed opportunity. The Best
- Physical Tension: The claustrophobia is suffocating and real, no editing tricks.
- Production Design: Animatronics return tactile dignity to the franchise.
- David Jonsson: A performance that redefines what an android can be on screen.
The Worst
- Ian Holm's CGI: A digital resurrection that smells of easy money and disrespect.
- Predictable Script: The twists are so obvious they feel like a mockery of the audience's intelligence.
- Toxic Nostalgia: The attempt to honor the classics ends up drowning them in their own homage.
The Claqueta Ácida Verdict
Alien: Romulus is a movie that breathes through its nose, with fear stuck to the skin. Álvarez achieves the impossible: making a sequel feel like an open wound. The industrial tension is oppressive, the physical terror is visceral, and Jonsson's performance is a saving anchor. But Holm's CGI is an ugly scar that doesn't heal. It's a merit-based pass, a celebration of tactile panic overshadowed by digital greed. If you're looking for real scares, they're here; if you're looking for coherence, cry. 💀🎬 Tráiler Oficial
